Holy Stone near Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa", Salamiou village, Pafos

Holy Stone near Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa"

Next to the Church of the Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa" at Salamiou village, there is a stone with an opening in the middle, and just behind it another one telling the story...

The stone was moved to the monastery by the refugees of a near by village hundreds of years ago. The place was called "Saint George" and it was raided by Turks who destroyed not only their homes but their monastery also.

The people found refuge at the Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa" and later on they brought a piece of their history with them. The stone has been in that place ever since!

A local tradition wants all children that are ill to pass through the stone and get better! This of course requires faith too, as I was told by my grandmother who saw my uncle get better when he was very ill at a young age!
