The Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa", Salamiou village, Pafos

The Monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa"

Salamiou has a very special place in my heart. I visit the village to see my grandparents on every opportunity I have and of course for my summer holidays!

The biggest part of the history of Salamiou is the monastery of "Panagia Salamiotissa" (Holy Mother Salamiotissa). The monastery is estimated around the 11th or 12th century but now only the Church is saved which is estimated around 1550 A.C.

The icon of Holy Mother is a piece of religious history and has performed many miracles in the past!

Fortunately, the past few years a nun came to live near the Church, and now with the money she has raised along with the help of other important monasteries, new constructions have begun that will restore the monastery to its former status.

I am sure that in a couple of years it will be placed amongst the most beautiful monasteries to visit in Pafos!
