The Cyprus Owl
It was yet another beautiful day of our holiday time coming to an end. We were driving from Salamiou village towards Archimandrita very late in the night and yet, there was, another surprise waiting for us.
The Cyprus Owl (Otus scops Cyprius), also known locally by the name "Thoupi"!
"Thoupi" is a subcategory of the Owls family that is found only in Cyprus, and it is of course a protected species!
Not scared by our presence, this beautiful owl was starring at us for sometime before it decided to leave. Its brown and white colour and big size are some of its unique features. What is more impressive though is the shape of its face. It has humanized characteristics and that is why many people call it the "human bird".
