Climbing at Hasanpoulia stones
It was a yet another beautiful day in Pafos and our tour included a visit at the stones of Hasanpoulia.
As we approached the area we realized that many people were approaching the biggest rock of the two from above.
We decided to follow them and found out that between that rock there is a spot for people who like climbing. It must have been around 30 or more people from different countries, all of them well equipped with the necessary gear.
Many of them were already climbing the rock on both sides with the rest either assisting them or just waiting for their turn!
For us it was the first time to found out that the stones of Hasanpoulia were used for this purpose. Perhaps next time we give it a try!

Night view of "Foinikoudes" area, Larnaca
Night view of "Foinikoudes"
After our walk at the Marina the sun was already set and the early evening light gave a magnificent blue color to the sky!
We moved towards the pedestrian road were the night lights already gave a nice filling to the scenery.
We walked past the palm trees ("Foinikoudes") towards the many cafes and restaurants.
The whole area is probably as beautiful in the night as it is during the morning time.

The Larnaca Marina
The Larnaca Marina
It was a lovely afternoon and we decided to visit the beautiful city of Larnaca and especially the seaside at "Foinikoudes" area.
Once we got there we visited the Marina which hosts many yachts and boats. We walked around the area admiring the view towards the main city and we felt a sense of calm near the sea!
The Marina is one of the highlights of the area and it is no coincidence that many other attractions are located near by! Larnaca has always been a city that its history was, and will be, attached to the sea. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the local authorities try to upgrade the whole area constantly to offer a nice experience to any visitor!

Old Mill at Archimandrita village, Pafos
Old Mill at Archimandrita
Our last expedition at Archimandrita was about to end with a visit at the Mill of the old settlement.
Our friend Christodoulos told us that the Mill at some point belonged to his great great grand father but it was not constructed by him. The Mill was a few hundreds year old!
The thick plantation did not allow us easy access but as we were told the Mill is now under restoration and within the year it will be easier to visit and in a better condition to explore.
As we approached near the Mill we were able to see an emblem on one of the walls which probably belongs to the medieval age and the Crusaders! This emblem is unique among Mills throughout Cyprus and adds more interest on this sight.
We look forward to our next visit when the Mill will be restored and be something worth viewing as part of our history!

Spring flowers at Archimandrita forest, Pafos
Spring flowers at Archimandrita forest
After we finished our expedition inside the Archimandrita river we walked back to the car through the forest.
Both on our left and right flowers made their first appearance marking the beginning of Spring time!
Various flowers with different colors synthesized a unique spectacle, one only nature can provide!
It was a pleasure for us to witness and enjoy nature's best once again despite the very limited rain we had this year.
We hope you enjoy it too if you decide to go out to the fields and mountains any time soon!

Walking inside the Archimandrita river, Pafos
Walking inside the Archimandrita river
The previous time we visited the Diarizos river at Archimandrita village it was full of water!
This time the river was completely empty! Unfortunately winter time was not so rainy this year but on the other hand we would not have been able to make this expedition if it had rain.
Our expedition lasted about 2 hours of walking in the forest but mainly inside the river which was not easy at all.
It is a completely different thing to see an empty river located inside the forest and between mountain cliffs.
We were able to walk far further than we would normally have if the river had water. We even spotted some wild goats and small frogs during our walk.
It was a good chance for us to see another view of the place and admire nature's beauty once again!

Images from Machairas area
After our visit at the Monument of Grigoris Afxentiou at Machairas we continued our return to Nicosia.
The fog was already behind us and the sun gave a nice warmth to the atmosphere.
As we approached the nearby camping area we stopped to admire the scenery.
On one side was the beautiful forest of Machairas and on the other side one of the hills was full of goats having their afternoon lunch!
A few moments later the silence was interrupted by the music and the voices of the people who had chosen to spend the day on the picnic area having their traditional souvla. After all what a better way to spend your day with friends on the lovely Machairas mountain!

Monument of Grigoris Afxentiou at Machairas, Nicosia
Monument of Grigoris Afxentiou at Machairas
Moving towards Nicosia through the mountains of Machairas we drove just above the monastery of "Panagia Machairiotissa".
On that location is the Monument dedicated to Grigoris Afxentiou. Afxentiou was the second in command during the EOKA struggle who gave an epic battle on March 3 1957 against the British troops on his hideout and died at the age of 29.
His sacrifice became synonymous with heroism of the highest degree and he is considered a national hero.Every year his memory is celebrated with a reenactment of the battle at the same location where he died.
The statute at the shape of an eagle symbolizes both the will for freedom but mostly the nickname given to Grigoris Afxentiou "Stavraetos tou Machaira" (Eagle of Machairas)!
