Easter in Archimandrita village, Pafos

Easter in Archimandrita village

Easter is one of the most important     events of Christianity. This year we decided to spend it at Archimandrita village in Pafos.

Archimandrita has no priest living in the village, so one must come earlier to perform the ceremony from another village. This means that the ceremony has to begin and finish earlier than anywhere else.

Nonetheless we witnessed a part of the ceremony we do not see often in other Churches throughout Cyprus.  It is a part where the priest stands in front of the door of the Church and representing Jesus Christ, he asks the Satan to open the doors of hell. Satan then replies who is requesting for the doors of hell to open. Then Jesus says it is the King of Heavens and the priest kicks the door to open.

This symbolizes the victory of God over death and the resurrection of  the dead who believe in Christ, to rise with him in Heavens.

It is a very nice part of the ceremony and we recommend to anyone to look for it next Easter.
