Our short expedition at Alona village included a visit at its most important Church. The Church of "Panagia Kardakiotissa" (Holy Mother of Kardakiotissa).
The Church was constructed around the 15th century perhaps from settlers from another region. Two significant icons are saved until today, one of Holy Mother and one of Jesus Christ.
Unfortunately the miracle-making icon of Panagia Kardakiotissa was destroyed in a fire at 1987!
Since then the Church has been restored inside and outside and is one of the highlights of Alona!
