Archimandrita village is one of our favourite destinations in Pafos. Although a small village it is very beautiful and with long history.
One of the most important places to visit is the Cave of the 318 Holy Fathers ( Spileo ton 318 Pateron). This place has a special significance to the religious history of Cyprus.
After the 4th Ecumenical Council in Chalcedon at 451 A.C. a storm forced the ship who carried the Holy Fathers to anchor in Pafos.
Once they came to shore they found refuge in a place after Kouklia village. There they established a monastery. This place is Archimandrita village.
The name "Archimandrita" originates from the Archimandrite (a title of the Christian Religion hierarchy) who led the mission of the Holy Fathers.
Today, the cave were some of the Holy Fathers lived, has been restored and one can visit it at any time. Inside you will be able to see well preserved wall paintings of Saints and also the relics of the Holy Fathers!
