A Hermit's Cave in Pafos!!
We had just finished our visit to the Church of Saint Constantine at the valley near Souskiou village and we were ready to leave for our next stop.
We then noticed some caves in the rocky mountain just nearby. They looked very interesting so we didn't miss the chance to visit them. It was a small country road that took as near the caves but we had to leave our car and continue on foot to get closer.
Much to our surprise we did not only discover caves but one of them was closed and locked by a metallic door. We had a look inside and saw almost all parts of the cave being painted with images of Saints.
The small sign near the door explained much of the story why. It was a place were hermits were leaving in different periods of time. We later learned that even Saint Neophytos (1134–1214) has passed from there.
Many more paintings have been lost since some parts of the caves have collapsed over time but the ones that still exist are very beautiful to see.
