School of Salamiou village, Pafos

Salamiou School

Salamiou village in Pafos is one of the many in Cyprus that saw its citizens leave the past decades in the search for a better life in town.

It is though a beautiful village with many things to see, and seems that now some of its people are returning back, giving life again to the area.

One of the main attractions of Salamiou is its old school. In the late 50's the school did not have enough classrooms for its more than 150 students! At that time, around 800 people lived in the village.

A few years ago the wife of the ambassador of Norway visited Salamiou and she liked it so much that she decided to help the village. She made it possible to gain funding from the Norwegian government to restore the old school to its current condition and make it operate as a Centre of Environmental Studies!

Since then, more restoration works are in progress around the village but if you happen to pass by, visiting the old school is a must!
